The Plain Jane in Singapore (One Night Only)

As my birthday (21st September) is approaching, the feeling that this year will be a good year is getting stroger and stronger, for there have been several good things happened as a pre-celebration already. What I'm about to tell you is, in my opinion, a part of the pre-celebration -- my business trip in Singapore. It's a 24-hour journey filled with fun and surprises. I will not to go into every detail though. If I do, it will be a long story and I'm quite lazy at the moment. So, I'll just cut out most of the side events and focus mainly on the business part, since it, after all, was a business trip...haha.

My boss were to have a meeting with our client in Singapore on Thursday, so he decided to take me with him. I was very nervous because I imagined that it would be a very important meeting or else he wouldn't pay extra to take me. All I could do was keeping my fingers cross that I wouldn't screw up or anything.

After spending the whole Thursday morning on travelling and getting settled in Singapore, in the afternoon, my boss and I went to see our client at the Marina Bay construction site (our compamy deals with designing the facade of buildings). The boss told me not to worry if I didn't understand anything. He would brief it to me later if there was anything important. Err...oh well, even though he said so, I was determined to try my best. So, I tried to listen attentively and made note. Unfortunately, my boss was right. I was completely lost in the discussion after 20 minutes when they started talking about loose vents (huh?), JIGS system (what?), adding pieces here and there (ok...where exactly?), etc, ect. If my brain was a computer, you can be sure to see the error messages popping up all over the screen, then smoke and sparks come out, and finally, the poor machine went dead. Honestly, the meeting was the most cruel and unusual torment I had ever had to participate in a while. However, on a brighter note, before I lost control of myself and fell asleep, my boss asked me to call the guys at our office in Thailand to check details of our work. So, I had my moment to shine as his personal translator there (eventually)

It was around 5.30 pm. when we eventually made it back to the hotel. The boss asked if I had any plan for the evening. If not, I was welcome to hang out with him. Err...as much as I wanted to have someone to keep me company for such an opportunity like this, being with my boss wasn't quite what I had in my mind. Therefore, I decided to call a friend of a friend whom I met only once at a party. She's a Thai who just moved to Singapore not very long ago. She happened to find out that I would be in Singapore for the night, so she gave me her phone number just in case I wanted to go out with her. We met up at a metro station, and joined her friends for dinner. After that, her friend was so kind to drop me off at the tourist attraction, so I could walk around and take pictures with the Merlion.

So, that's it for my Singapore trip. As I said, I left out many side events to keep this blog as short as possible. I thought of writing a complete version of this trip before changing my mind and come up with the summary version instead. What a lazy bum I am...
